A Youtube star in Rwanda whose name is Dieudonne Niyonsenga and who has over 15 million subscribers was jailed for at least two years after he “humiliated” state officials.

Another one whose name is Dieudonne Niyonsenga and who has over 15 million views on his channel that spoke about the faults of the government was jailed for seven years on four charges which include forgery and identity theft.

He mostly focused on human rights abuses on his channel.

“We are appealing this ruling against Niyonsenga with immediate effect. It’s just not right,” his lawyer Gatera Gashabana said in a statement.

He also faced a fine which in US dollars would account to almost $5,000.

“Due to the negative consequences of his crimes for the Rwandan society, the court orders Dieudonne Niyonsenga to be arrested immediately and to be brought to his prison sentence,” the judge said announcing the court’s decision.

Rwanda is currently experiencing a tightening grip on opposition as last month six people among them a journalist and a member of the opposition were also arrested.
