A bill on blocking foreign Internet platforms for discrimination against Russian media is necessary. However, it needs to be thoroughly worked out, according to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
These services take discriminatory actions against Russian clients, TASS quotes the Kremlin representative.
In his opinion, such actions against users from Russia have taken place in recent months and weeks.
The Kremlin has not yet formed a final position on applying fines or blocking the platforms to fight censorship. But Peskov added that this needs to be countered.
NEWS.ru reported earlier that a bill on retaliatory sanctions against foreign Internet platforms for censorship against domestic media would be submitted to the State Duma, RIA Novosti reports, citing a source familiar with the document. The bill provides for the possibility of blocking foreign platforms or slowing down their traffic. Moreover, the draft law speaks about penalties for non-compliance with the requirements of Roskomnadzor.
The innovation will affect both social networks and large IT platforms.
