Speaker of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko has self-isolated after contacting a person infected with COVID-19, according to the first vice-speaker of the upper chamber Andrei Yatskin.


Valentina Ivanovna had contact with a coronavirus patient. She self-isolated, following the rules. She continues to work remotely, Yatskin said at a meeting of the Federation Council.

Yatskin is presiding over the meeting on Wednesday, December 2, in the absence of Matvienko. He chairs on behalf of the speaker.

Spokesman of the Federation Council chief Vladislav Ponomarenko explained to reporters how Matvienko works remotely. According to him, she keeps in touch with the heads of the committees and her deputies, RIA Novosti reports.
