The attack in southern Afghanistan comes shortly after clashes broke out in the northeast of the country.

Afghan sources have reported that the Imam Bargah mosque in Kandahar was attacked with a bomb on Friday afternoon.

The interior ministry of the Taliban* regime has confirmed the assault and announced that authorities opened an investigation and started gathering information. No group has claimed responsibility yet, but the explosion comes a week after IS-K*, the local branch of ISIL, attacked another Shiite mosque in Kunduz, killing more than 100 Afghans.

Reported photos and footage of the incident’s aftermath have been uploaded to the net. Law enforcement agents have been deployed to the scene.

The blast occurred while many citizens were praying inside. At least 32 people have been killed and 53 others injured, according to Afghan health officials. Local hospitals have added that they are keeping getting patients, therefore, the death toll is likely to increase.
