Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, who has contracted coronavirus infection, is ill with the severe form of the virus, according to representatives of the press service of the head of state, Interfax reports.

Earlier it became known that Armenian President Armen Sarkissian tested positive for coronavirus and was on self-isolation. On January 6, the administration’s press service said that the president’s wife, Nouneh Sarkissian, also contracted COVID.

The Armenian president is under the supervision of doctors and continues to work remotely whenever possible.

After his situation stabilizes and if the doctors allow, the president of Armenia will return to Yerevan, reads the message.

In June 2020, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan also fell ill with coronavirus. The infection was detected in his family, as well. Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan tested positive for COVID in November.

Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic tested positive for coronavirus infection in December, a week after the EU summit, NEWS.ru reported earlier.
