Four Russian tourists were found dead on Friday near the hotel sauna at a beach resort Qerret in western Albania.

The two men and two women aged 31-60 were in the group who stayed at the five-star hotel for a week. The hotel staff said that the deceased people were relatives.

"Around 10:00 pm in Qerret of Kavaja on October 15, in a sauna in the Gloria Palace hotel were found the dead bodies of four people with Russian nationality. All of them were presumably asphyxiated," the police spokesman said.

According to the police, the Russians might spend more time in the sauna than recommended. The law enforcement officers examine various reasons for the deaths including alcohol intoxication and the sauna ventilation problems.

The Russian Embassy in the capital of Tirana has been informed about the accident as the police have started an investigation.
