11 Picasso artworks sell $110 mn in Las-Vegas

11 artworks of the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso have been sold for $110 million at the Las-Vega auction, BBC reported.

Picasso's pieces had been exhibited in the restaurant “Picasso” at the “Bellagio” hotel in Las Vegas for 20 years. The restaurant owners auctioned 9 paintings and two ceramic pieces by the Spanish artist.

The most expensive item was Woman in the Red-Orange Berete where Picasso painted his muse Marie-Theresa Walter as it was sold for $40,5 million.

Two meters high piece Man and Child (Homme et Enfant) was estimated at $24,4 million.

"At nearly 2m (6.5ft) tall, the 1959 work is a hugely impressive example of Picasso's achievements during this important stage in his career," the auction house, Sotheby's, said.

The masterpiece Still Life with Fruit Basket and Flowers painted by Picasso during the Nazi occupation of Paris in 1942 was sold for $16,6 million.

The Picasso artworks were collected more than 20 years ago by the American businessman Steve Wynn, who was the former owner of the Bellagio Hotel.

The buyers' names have not been disclosed.

Earlier, the artwork Love is in the Bin of the anonymous British artist Banksy was sold for $25 million (£16 million) at Sotheby's in London on October 15  as the guide price was set at $6 million (£4 million).
