The announcement was made in a video posted on Instagram.
The famous American pop singer Britney Spears posted a video on Instagram showing an engagement ring given by her boyfriend Sam Asghari following the proposal, then kissing him and saying yes to the question of whether she likes it.
The news was confirmed by Asghari's manager Brandon Cohen in a statement given to PEOPLE magazine.
"The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication, and love expressed to them."
The ring with a 4-carat brilliant stone was created by jeweler Roman Malayev. It has the word “Lioness” engraved inside the band, the pop star’s nickname. Malayev said in a statement that he was honored to be the conceiver of a ring for the couple.
“Their journey together has touched people around the world and we’re so excited to be a part of their forever. We are thrilled to congratulate Britney and Sam on their recent engagement.”
Spears and Asghari met in 2016 on the set of the Slumber Party music video, a single from Spears’s ninth studio album “Glory”.
Asghari was born in Tehran, Iran, and immigrated to the US with his family at the age of 12. He worked as a model and an actor and is currently a personal trainer in personally founded Asghari Fitness.
Britney has expressed gratitude to the Iranian-born boyfriend by saying that he was with her through the hardest and the best years of her life, highlighting that he made her feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
Last week Britney’s father Jamie Spears, who has been holding conservatorship over his daughter for the last 13 years, announced he had filed papers to terminate the conservatorship to let Britney handle her life.
During a court hearing in June, Britney said that she wanted to marry Asghari and have a baby with him, which cannot be fully reached while Britney is under conservatorship since private and financial aspects of her life are out of her control.
Britney was married to Kevin Federline with whom she shares custody of two sons, aged 14 and 15.
