The “John Wick” star gave an interview to Esquire in which he answered popular questions about his life and career. One of the questions was whether it was true that he and Ryder have been married since Francis Ford Coppola’s "Dracula", released in 1992.
“Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married. Under the eyes of God,” the widely admired actor said solemnly.
Even though Ryder and Reeves held merely a movie ceremony, they believe that it was something more since director Coppola invited a real Romanian priest and filmed the scene in a Greek Orthodox church.
Several years ago Ryder also agreed that she and Keanu got married in real life.
“No, I swear to God I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”
The initiator of the whole thing Francis Ford Coppola did not refute the idea either in 2018.
“So in a sense, when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony.”
Apart from Dracula, Reeves and Ryder co-starred in “A Scanner Darkly” (2006), “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” (2009), and “Destination Wedding” (2018).
