Tests for coronavirus infection, which are used in Russia, identify the British strain of the virus, and Russian vaccines protect against it, Head of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian consumer watchdog) Anna Popova said.

According to our data, the test systems that operate in the Russian Federation for PCR diagnostics detect this virus, and the vaccines that are currently registered in the Russian Federation absolutely protect against it, Popova said on the air of the Rossiya 1 channel.

She stressed that the new strain of coronavirus infection doesn’t cause a more severe course than the usual one, but, most likely, this variant is more infectious.

The coronavirus strain identified in the UK is spreading faster than the usual variant, Expert of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maria Van Kerkhove said earlier.
