A Brazilian Senate committee that runs an investigation regarding the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has supported charges against the country's President, Jair Bolsonaro.

Seven of the eleven committee senators have backed late Tuesday the report that calls for nine charges against Bolsonaro. A report of 1,288 pages also contains charges against two firms and 78 individuals, including Brazil's President, over the high number of COVID-19 deceased.

Jair Bolsonaro dismissed all the charges claiming he was not guilty.

The report alleges that Bolsonaro’s government couldn’t handle COVID-19 spread properly and the attempts to restrain the pandemic were poor.

Senator Omar Aziz is due to send the results to Brazil’s prosecutor-general on Wednesday.

However, there are no expectations that the results of voting would lead to criminal accusations against Brazil’s President as the report recommendations will be transmitted to Attorney General Augosto Aras, who considers to be an ally of the President and who likely will support Bolsonaro.

The commission will allegedly send a duplicate of the report to the International Court in the Hague.

Brazil has registered the enormous number of COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic - 606,293 as of now.
