Another several dead bodies have been found in the jail where more than 100 prisoners were killed in the gang war between the cartels.


Ecuador’s prison officials revealed on Saturday that seven prisoners were found dead in the jail affected in September by violent riots in which 119 people had been killed.

According to the post made on the SNAI account on Twitter, the bodies have been found in the Guayaquil prison in the Penitenciaria del Litoral situated in the southwest of Ecuador. The pavilion is used for conjugal visits.

The prison’s authorities added that they were cooperating with the police units investigating the massacre.

The latest incident occurs shortly after four prisoners were found dead on October 14.

A total of 240 people have been killed in 2021 in the penitentiaries of Ecuador including 79 deaths in February. More than 1,900 murders have been recorded in the county this year. Most of them took place in Guayaquil, the economic center of Ecuador.

Ecuador's President Guillermo Lasso introduced a state of emergency in the country’s jails to mobilize military forces and reestablish control over the institutions.
