It is necessary to develop own payment mechanisms, independent of the West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, commenting on threats to disconnect Belarus from SWIFT, RIA Novosti reports.

As for SWIFT, this is one of the topics on which those who would like to prevent the situation from leveling off and would like to aggravate it continue to put their ultimatums. This system was created by the Americans and their allies. It serves financial flows to ensure regular trade, investments, and practically all other economic life aspects, he said at a press conference following the CSTO Ministerial Council.

Lavrov called for developing own mechanisms that won’t drive countries into dependence on the West.

The minister stressed that the West had proven its unreliability as a partner. Therefore, it is not worth relying on multilateral instruments that are completely under Western countries’ control.

NEWS.ru earlier reported that Belarus is ready to strengthen and intensify relations with Russia, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Minsk.
