The President of the Russian Federation will not attend the summit of the G20 in person, according to the Kremlin.

However it was added that the President will connect to the summit in an online format.

The summit is scheduled to take place in Rome this month on the 30th and the 31st of October.

The Russian President already informed the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi who is also the chairman of the summit about his decision.

Draghi and Putin recently had a call where they discussed Afghanistan and other bilateral issues.

Russia was also a member of the G8 until 2014 when the country members decided to suspend Russia due to the situation in Crimea.

The Russian side did not object saying that all major issues are usually discussed in the G20 forum.
