On June 23, the Russian Border Patrol with forces of the Federal Security Service (FSB) compelled the UK Defender to change its route due to its entering Russian territorial borders. Several warning shots were fired.

According to the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, the Russian Foreign Ministry has warned that such provocations similar to UK Defender, could lead to dire consequences.

Ryabkov also added that the protection of the Russian Federation comes first. The Country can appeal to common sense and call other countries for respect regarding international law. Otherwise, if such a position is unclear, Russia will use its armed forces to protect its territory.

"If our colleagues do not understand, we can bomb not only the course but also the targets", he added.

Ryabkov also said that Moscow will respond through diplomatic channels

Earlier, the British Defence Ministry stated that the British destroyer hasn’t reached the Russian water territory and followed its course within Ukrainian borders.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded on June 24 that The British statement was “blatant lies”.
