A man with the British strain of COVID was identified in Russia at the end of last year, Head of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian consumer watchdog) Anna Popova said.

Only one person had a new variant of coronavirus. At the same time, the person feels well. He didn’t have any symptoms and no longer secretes the virus, she said on the air of the Rossiya 1 channel.

Popova added that by the end of last year, it became clear that a carrier of the British strain of coronavirus could appear in Russia. She noted that from the end of November to December 22, when air traffic was terminated, a little more than 7,000 people flew to the Russian Federation from the UK.

The coronavirus strain identified in the UK is spreading faster than the usual variant, Expert of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maria Van Kerkhove said earlier.
