Russia raised two Sukhoi SU-30 fighter aircrafts as a pair of US B-1B were seen approaching Russia’s border over the Black Sea.
Russia’s National Defense Management Center said that the radar detected flying objects approaching Russia’s air frontier. They were detected as a pair of supersonic heavy bombers B-1B accompanied by two refuelling planes. The US aircraft were escorted by the Russian warplanes and as soon as the B-1B’s changed course, Russian planes returned back.
The bombers were reported to conduct the take-off from the British Fairford air base, according to the source.
The NDMC said that the completed flights were carried out in strict compliance with international airspace rules and it added that the US bombers didn’t breach the border.
Air border interferences or attempts to do so are not rare. Earlier, Russia’s Sukhoi SU-30 jet intercepted a US Navy spy aircraft, which conducted a flight over the Black Sea in mid-July. Fighter aircraft SU-30 prevented a Lockheed EP-3E reconnaissance plane from entering the Russian border. A week before that Russian fighter had escorted two US military spy planes EP-3E Aries and CL-600 Challenger.
