A part of a five-story residential building was destroyed by an explosion probably caused by a gas leak.


On Monday an explosion destroyed an upper part of a five-story condo in the Naberezhnye Chelny town situated some 920 km (570 miles) east of Moscow.

According to preliminary data, the blast occurred on the fourth or the fifth floor and was caused by a gas leak. The town’s emergency service checks the information out.

Local media report that at least four people have been injured in the incident, while 32 others have been evacuated. Cars and infrastructure nearby have been considerably damaged.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that rescuers saved two children aged 11 and 17 out of the rubble. The condition of the youngsters is considered to be moderate.

90 emergency agents and 35 units of equipment have been deployed on the scene as well as K9 units. Law enforcement agencies opened an investigation on possible safety rules neglect.
