Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero will announce his retirement on Wednesday, Marca reported.

Aguero is expected to hold a special press conference to make an announcement.

On October 31, Aguero, 33, was holding his chest and asked for a substitute shortly before the break during the La Liga football match against Alaves. The Barcelona medics brought the stretcher but Aguero managed to walk off the pitch on his own.

The Argentine player has been undergoing treatment since then. The Barcelona medical staff initially reported about 3 months for the player to recover but it turned out that the problem was more serious than anticipated.

Aguero played for the Argentinian club Independiente, Spanish Atlético, English Manchester City, Barcelona, and the Argentinian national team.

Now he is considered one of the best football strikers and one of the best players in the history of the Premier League during his decade-long association with Manchester City. He became Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer in the club's history. Sergio Aguero joined Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer on a free transfer.

At the club level, he has won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup, the FA Championship five times, the FA Cup six times, the FA Cup once and the FA Super Cup three times.

As part of the Argentina national team, Aguero won the 2008 Olympics, as well as the 2021 America's Cup.
