Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has retained his title in a rematch against Colby Covington at Madison Square Garden in York within UFC 268. It was the fifth successful title defense for the “Nigerian Nightmare” and his 20th win in his MMA career.
Both fighters went all the distance as all three judges had their decisions in favor of Nigerian fighter Usman. Bruce Buffer announced it - 48:47, 48:47, and 49:46 from the third judge.
It was the third loss in Covington’s MMA career as the fighter's record has changed to 16-3. Colby Covington had only one loss in his MMA career before he faced Kamaru Usman. He was defeated by Warlley Alves via submission back in 2015.
The overall record for the current champion Usman turns 20-1 after his 19th MMA victory in a row.
Earlier, on the same tourney, Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler showed MMA viewers how the true massacre in the octagon must look like. Both fighters headed to a hospital after a three-round war.
