Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has won US Open 2021 – he beat 1st ranked Serbian Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 Sunday night.
It was the third Medvedev attempt to win the Grand Slam. He reached the final in New York in 2019 and the 2021 Australian open but Medvedev was beaten those times before. 25-years old Medvedev is the first Russian male tennis player for the last 15 years who won the Grand Slam tournament (Marat Safin did that in the Australian Open 2005).
Additionally, Medvedev is the first male tennis player since Rafael Nadal's victory in 2010 and third in history who lost only one set during the tournament.
Medvedev welcomed his victory at the special PC game FIFA goal celebration.
"During the tournament, I couldn't think of a present or anything, but if I lose I have to think of a present," Medvedev said after the final.
Novak Djokovic didn't achieve a remarkable result – the Serbian could take the first calendar-year Grand Slam since the legendary Rod Laver record in 1969. Djokovic has already won the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year.
Djokovic praised the Russian tennis player: "I wish you many more grand slams, many more majors, I'm sure you'll be on this stage in the future again."
Earlier, 18-years old Emma Raducanu beat her peer Leylah Fernandez in the female Final 6-4, 6-3. British Raducanu ranked 150 before the US Open and got into the tournament through qualifying.
