From now on the users of the platform can decide themselves the amount of sensitive content.

Instagram has launched the "Sensitive Content Control" function providing the user with the ability to limit or enhance the amount of objectionable content in their Explore tab.

According to Facebook as the owner of Instagram, the new Sensitive Content Control setting will let you "see more or less of some types of sensitive content," which may be "upsetting or offensive."

"We recognize that everybody has different preferences for what they want to see in Explore, and this control will give people more choice over what they see."

The platform offers three levels of reduction: Allow, Limit (Default), and Limit Even More. The minors will not have access to Allow button.

Repulsive contents on Instagram are mainly violence and those of erotic nature. The platform’s rules already ban nudity, with the exception of breastfeeding or pieces of art.

Among the other undesired examples, there might be tobacco and pharmaceutical promotion.

In any case, Facebook has already specified that the system is based on its Recommendation Guidelines and not on its Community Guidelines, thus adapting to particular users.

Any post violating FB’s rules will be deleted anyway, meanwhile, Sensitive Content Control will hide only posts of objectionable character which do not breach the company’s rules.

Instagram has already taken steps to minimize concerns about content moderation and the users’ well-being. The platform has recently introduced the option to hide likes as well as the ability for users to restrict certain followers from interacting with their accounts.
