New robotic guard secures Russian Vostochny Cosmodrome from violators

Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome got a robotic guard to patrol the territory and ground space infrastructure facilities, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said on Twitter.

The robotic security platform Marker will conduct autonomous policing as well as identifying and intercepting violators. The device can operate in both radio-controlled and autonomous modes.

"Roscosmos, along with the Scientific and Technical Center "Protection" together with the private company Androidnaya Technika and the Foundation for Advanced Studies has started testing the Marker robotic security platform at the Vostochny Cosmodrome," Rogozin wrote on Twitter.

Russia has already developed five robotic guards Marker, two on a wheeled chassis and three tracked ones, according to the Roscosmos' statement.

The Russian Space Agency is planning to use the technologies involved in the Marker's development while creating machines for the exploration of the Moon and other solar system planets, the agency said.
