Prime Minister of the UK Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie on Tuesday have announced the birth of a baby girl, the second child for the couple.

In July this year the Johnsons announced they were anticipating a child.

A Spokesperson for the family said in a statement: “The Prime Minister and Mrs Johnson are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl at a London hospital earlier today.”

“Both mother and daughter are doing very well. The couple would like to thank the brilliant NHS maternity,” a spokesperson added.

The first child for the couple Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson was born in April 2020 a month before the couple was married at a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral.

It was unknown how many children the Prime Minister has had until September, the month when Johnson revealed in an interview with NBC that he had had six children. The newborn girl whose name hasn’t been yet announced has become the seventh.

The head of the opposition party Keir Starmer logged in on Twitter to congratulate the Johnsons and wished the family “health and happiness.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister has imposed the fourth wave of lockdown on the country amid swift spreading of the new variant of COVID-19 dubbed Omicron. The announcement was followed by the scandal regarding the massive gathering of senior officials at Downing Street 10 to celebrate the winter festivities as the country at that time faced serious restrictions due to COVID-19 when such public events were temporarily outlawed.
