The President of the United States Joe Biden is continuing to call on his nation to get vaccinated at any costs saying that this winter will bring nothing but “severe illness and death” to those who are not vaccinated, as the new COVID-19 variant Omicron is spreading across the lands.

"I want to send a direct message to the American people: Due to the steps we've taken, Omicron has not yet spread as fast as it would have otherwise done," he said in a statement.

"But it's here now and it's spreading and it's gonna increase. ... We are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated -- for themselves, their families and the hospitals they'll soon overwhelm. But there's good news: If you're vaccinated and you have your booster shot, you're protected from severe illness and death," he added.

He stressed that vaccination is important not only for the saving of lives and the general safety of the American nation but also due to the fact that it helps the economy of the United States continue recovering and developing surpassing the recovery rates of many other countries.

"We're gonna protect our economic recovery. If we do this, we're gonna keep schools and businesses open ... and I want to see everyone around enjoy that. I want to see them enjoy the fact that they're able to be in school, that businesses are open and the holidays are coming," he continued.

The new Omicron strain brings great danger to the US as only one in six people are fully vaccinated meaning that there are millions and millions of people whose life is still at risk.

The COVID-19 sickness levels may hit new records this winter as the pressure on hospitals is growing.

Each day over a hundred thousand cases are being diagnosed while the deaths account to at least 1,200 daily.

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci said that he expects Omicron to become the dominant strain in the US in the nearest time period.

"It has what we call a doubling time of about three days. And if you do the math on that, if you have just a couple of percent of the isolates being Omicron, very soon it's going to be the dominant variant. We've seen that in South Africa, we're seeing it in the UK and I'm absolutely certain that's what we're going to be seeing here relatively soon."
