The director of the “Rust” movie has released a statement in which he shared his feelings over the lethal shooting which took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Director Joel Souza has released his first statement after the prop gun accident in which he was injured and his colleague Halyna Hutchins killed by actor Alec Baldwin.

"I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna. She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch, and always pushed me to be better. My thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time.

Souza also thanked his supporters for their "outpouring of affection" and assured it will help him recover soon.

The director was discharged from hospital on Friday.

Earlier Alec Baldwin said that an assistant director gave him the prop gun unaware that it was loaded. The film’s crew including Baldwin himself are cooperating with the police units investigating the incident.

"My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna," the actor said in a Twitter post.

Ukraine-born Halyna Hutchins studied journalism in Kyiv and the film industry in the US. She had a husband and a nine-year-old son.
