The age for nomination for political office must be limited to 70 years, Elon Musk, an American entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, said on his Twitter account.

"Let's set an age limit after which you can't run for political office, perhaps a number just below 70," he said.

Musk did not specify whether he was referring to the US presidency, which has a lower age limit of 35 but no upper age limit.

The previous head of the United States, Donald Trump, was 70 years old at the time of his inauguration to the presidency. His successor, the incumbent President of the United States, Joe Biden, took office at the age of 78.

In late November, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki announced that Biden was going to run for a second term in 2024. At that time he will be 81 years old.

Biden spoke about plans to run for the next presidential election back in March. If he wins the vote, he will update his own record and become the oldest US president in history for the second time.

The current US president has health problems. Joe Biden underwent a "routine colonoscopy" in November. For the time of the surgery, the presidential power was given to Vice President Kamala Harris.
