The Boise shooter was taken into custody after exchanging fire with police officers.

A man dressed all in black has opened fire inside a mall in Boise, Idaho, killing two civilians and injuring four people including a police officer.

Local police said that officers exchanged fire with the suspect who was hospitalized in critical condition. The injured officer was also taken to hospital but was quickly discharged after an examination and treatment.

Officials have not presented any information on the suspect, victims, and the wounded deputy.

The incident, which took place on Monday around 2 p.m., was reported by the mall’s security service after customers rushed towards the exit or searched for a cover inside the shops.

“There was an exchange of gunfire that ensued shortly thereafter, resulting in the officer's injury, as well as the suspect being taken into custody,” Boise Police Chief Ryan Lee said during a press conference.

He added that the police were not looking for another suspect and that there was no threat to public security.

The mall which was secured later in the evening will remain shut for the time of the investigation. The motive of the gunmen remains unknown.

A Texas man has earlier killed a police officer near a bar and injured two other deputies while they were handcuffing another man on the ground.
