The former US President’s slammed the country’s top general for evacuating from Afghanistan without equipment after the Taliban* had captured the capital Kabul.
During an event run in Mar-a-Lago by conservative organization Turning Point Action, ex-President of the US Donald Trump has denounced chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley for withdrawing from Afghanistan without technical equipment and called him “a f***ing idiot” in front of those gathered.
The former head of state delivered a speech in which he unveiled that he wanted to bring back to the US everything the country had taken during its longest military conflict in history.
Before recalling a meeting with general Milley, Trump asked whether the Biden administration could not send several hundred pilots to fly back all the helicopters and planes, consequently “appreciated” by the insurgents.
"That's when I realized he was a fucking idiot."
Trump on General Milley's refusal to fly military aircraft out of Afghanistan prior to full withdrawl.
Trump imitated Milley in a mocking soldierly manner, Trump told a story of how they discussed the withdrawal.
“I’ll never forget Milley saying to me, “Sir, sir. It's cheaper to leave the equipment than to bring it”. And I said “Really?” You’ve got a $50m aero plane. You’ve got a $29m gorgeous helicopter. We had every type of helicopter. Many of them brand new.”
As the ex-President could not believe what he had just heard, he repeated the question and asked Milley if he thought that getting the planes filled with gas and flying them to Pakistan or the US would be more expensive.
Having impersonated Milley confirming one more time that leaving the equipment would be cheaper, Trump said that he understood everything then.
“That’s when I realized he was a f***ing idiot.”
The phrase was enjoyed by the public which met it with laughter.
During the international withdrawal from Kabul in August, the US managed to evacuate more than 120,000 American citizens and Afghans who worked for the government during the war.
