Armenia announces six dead at border fighting on Nov 16

Six soldiers were killed in clashes on the border on November 16, the Armenian Defence Ministry reported.

"Up to date, the Armenian side has six victims in a conflict on November 16, following the attack of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the eastern border of the Republic of Armenia," the statement on the website of the Armenian Defense Ministry says.

On Tuesday, Yerevan said that the Azerbaijan forces attempted to invade the country in the area of ​​Mount Kilisali, one Armenian soldier was killed, 13 were captured, 24 went missing.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that seven Azerbaijani soldiers were killed and ten wounded in clashes on the border with Armenia. Azerbaijan and Armenia reportedly ceased hostilities at the border area after telephone conversations conducted by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

On November 18, Baku reported a new attack from Armenia and said that it was suppressed, there were no losses among the Azerbaijani military.

In November, the situation in Karabakh and border districts of the Syunik Region of Armenia aggravated drastically. Both countries reported frequent armed incidents resulting in several casualties.

On November 13, an unknown man threw a grenade at Russian and Azerbaijani soldiers at a block post near Karabakh border. Three soldiers were reportedly wounded in the attack.

The Karabakh conflict escalated into full-scale war in 2020. Tensions between Yerevan and Baku remained following the 44-day military conflict along the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, resulting in more than 6,500 people being killed.

The clashes were stopped with a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement on November 10, in accordance with which Azerbaijan was reunited with some territories lost in the previous conflicts.
