Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said he intends to visit Russia in the first quarter of 2022 at the invitation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the Russian news agency TASS reported.

"President Putin invited us to visit Russia. The invitation was accepted. It is a pleasure and great honor for me. It opens a window of opportunities for our country," Bolsonaro said.

According to the Brazilian leader, he will be accompanied on the trip by a ministerial delegation, the list of aides has not yet been determined. The visit will be scheduled to take place in February or March.

"Russia is interested in Brazil. It is a large market. We will deepen our relations with Russia," Bolsonaro added.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlus Alberto Franco França paid a visit to Russia this week and met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. Following the visit, two countries signed a plan of political consultations between the diplomatic departments.

In November, the Brazilian leader joined the centrist Liberal Party (Partido Liberal) even though he was considered to be of the far-right movement before the presidential elections scheduled for autumn 2022.
