US President Joe Biden sent CIA director chief William Burns to Afghanistan to meet with the Taliban* leader, according to reports.

Burn met with the Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar in Kabul as the US is continuing its efforts to evacuate all American citizens by the deadline of Aug. 31 when all American troops are set to leave Afghanistan.

US President Biden said that his administration will do everything possible that evacuations end by Aug. 31, however, he also mentioned that in case Americans are left in Afghanistan after the troop withdrawal deadline, American troops will stay as long as needed.

The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that he will attempt to persuade Biden into pushing the evacuation deadline beyond Aug. 31, saying that this will help more people flee Afghanistan.

The Taliban have already warned that the set deadline is a red line and if crossed all foreign forces will be considered as occupiers and a reaction will follow.
