The death toll from the blast at an ammunition establishment in Zhambyl region, Kazakhstan has risen to nine, four people remain missing, according to the Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan.


There were around 500 tons of TNT inside the military depot.

The fifth victim of the explosion, Fire Chief Sergeant Yerkin Nadirbekov, born in 1992, was announced dead on Friday. The man was responsible for extinguishing the fire at the depot.

An activist’s Assem Zhapisheva tweet reads that it was the seventh ammunition depot blast in Kazakhstan within the last 10 years.

A series of severe blasts, allegedly seven, took place on August 26 at around 7 pm local time. They caused at least 90 injuries and nine fatalities as well as four others missing. The officials immediately issued an evacuation order of neighboring settlements. Approximately 1,200 people were moved out of their residences.
