Over the past 24 hours, the number of coronavirus cases has surpassed 564,000. The deadly pathogen has claimed 8,985 lives globally, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

North and South America accounted for the highest number of infections (258,000). Meanwhile, some 210,000 new cases were recorded in Europe.
