Shots were exchanged in front of the Marriott Hotel on Times Square yesterday, on June the 27th. Two groups, who at this point are believed to have been street peddlers selling pirated CDs, opened fire on each other after a dispute.
While there are no reports of any fatalities, a Mr Samuel Poulin who was visiting the city with his wife, was hit in the back by a ricocheting bullet. He has been hospitalized but, according to relatives, his injuries are not life threatening.
The incident is the latest example of the crime wave New York has been experiencing since the start of the year. Compared to 2020, the number of shooting and knife attack victims has risen by almost 50. Mayoral candidate and ex-cop Eric Adams was quick to comment on the attack and proclaim crime an obstacle to New York’s economic recovery.
