Released from long-term house arrest in Canada, Meng Wanzhou landed in her mother country – China. The US prosecutors have put an end to a fraud case against her, thus it allowed Wanzhou to return back to her country, in which she had been absent for over 1,000 days.
Chinese state media greeted Wanzhou back to the home country on Saturday. Massive gathering of people were seen at the Chinese airport as they lifted up placards and posters as a sign of welcoming freed Wanzhou.
Meng Wanzhou thanked the Canadian authorities for obeying the rule of law, and expressed gratitude to the people of Canada. She also apologized “for the inconvenience I caused.”
“Over the last three years my life has been turned upside down. It was a disruptive time for me as a mother, a wife and as a company executive. But I believe every cloud has a silver lining. It really was an invaluable experience in my life. I will never forget all the good wishes I received,” she said.
Chinese officials remain silent about their decision regarding the freed Canadian nationals.
Anyway, the series of imprisonments from both Chinese and Canadian sides have seriously damaged the relationship between above-mentioned countries as Chinese officials were repeatedly saying that the Wanzhou’s case had to be dropped to avoid further degradation of an already ruined relationship.
