The Mexican authorities plan to purchase 7.4 million doses of the Sputnik V COVID vaccine from Russia between January and March 2021, Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Luis Ebrard Casaubon said, TASS reports.

He noted that the vaccine is pending a request for its use in Mexico. Some 7.4 million doses of the vaccine at this stage will be used to vaccinate 3.7 million people. The first batch of 400,000 doses will arrive in the republic from January 25 until 29.

Since the end of February 2020, Mexico has registered 1,649,502 cases of coronavirus infection. Since December 24, 2020, the population has been vaccinated with a Pfizer jab. To date, about half a million Mexicans have received the vaccine.

Pfizer and BioNTech found a way to cut delays in COVID-19 vaccine shipments to Europe, NEWS.ru reported earlier.
