Elon Musk’s company Tesla launches a subscription model for its “Full Self-Driving capability” driving assistance software.

Previously the service was available only for those who bought it at the full price at $10,000 US dollars.

Now however it is possible to use the service without paying $10,000 upfront. Instead, the customer has the possibility to subscribe to the service for $199 per month.

The software does not replace the driver completely as the car will still “require a fully attentive driver, who has their hands on the wheel,” said Tesla on its website.

Zachary Kirkhorn Tesla’s CFO said that this policy will generate additional revenue for the company.

He also stated that the price for Tesla’s driving assistance software may drop down in the near future.

"If ... you look at the number of customers who did not purchase FSD upfront or on a lease and maybe want to experiment with FSD, this is a great option for them," said Zachary Kirkhorn.
