The Presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan Recep Tayyip Erdogan and İlham Aliyev on Tuesday opened together the international airport of Fizuli in the Karabakh region.

Both heads of states cut the red ribbon in front of the airport gates, which is the first airport to be built in the Karabakh region after the 2020 Karabakh war.

The Fizuli airport was built within a record-breaking short term of eight months.

Aliyev also claimed that two more airports are being built in the Karabakh cities of Zangilan and Lachin.

The Karabakh conflict escalated into another full-scale war in 2020. The fighting stopped with a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement on November 10, in accordance with which Azerbaijan was reunited with some territories lost in the previous conflicts.

The Turkish side provided military support to Azerbaijan during the war, sending the military equipment and forces.
