Two children, both aged 10, have admitted that they were “burning books” in the forest of pines, so it has, most likely, led to the massive fire that engulfed Aegean province of Muğla’s Marmaris district in Turkey, according to the police.

The information about the activities of the boys that have led to the fire was obtained with the help of a pedagogue.

According to their testimonies, the two children went to the forest of pines in the Armutalan neighborhood to burn “some books.”

“In an instance, the flames grew. We wanted to put out the fire with a soda bottle filled with water. We could not. So, we ran away,” said the boys, whose personalities are not publicly revealed in terms of security measures.

The motive of burning books is unclear. The gusty winds make fire spread, getting closer to hotels and villages, creating a considerable threat of devastating adjacent infrastructure.
