Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman more widely known as El Chapo’s wife Emma Aispuro will spend the three upcoming years in detention after she was accused of illegal financial operations as well as trafficking of drugs.

After her release she will additionally spend 4 years under supervision and she will also be obliged to pay a fun of $1.5 million.

During the court she said that she was sorry for all the committed crimes and asked for pardon from the families of the victims who were affected by the activity of her husband’s Sinaloa cartel.

She attempted to call for mercy by mentioning her 2 nine-year-old twins who need her as a mother.

She also expressed her fear that she might be severely punished by members of cartels for her reported cooperation with American special agents, adding that she might not be able to ever return to Mexico due to those claims.

Prosecutors aimed for a more harsh sentence but the judge considered her to be just "a cog in a very large wheel of a criminal organization."

The judge ended the cour meeting by saying:

"Good luck. Hope you raise your twins in a different environment than what you have experienced to date. Good luck."

Earlier, it was reported that the US charged several high-profile members of the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel and among them is the brother of one of the main founders and the former leader of the cartel itself Joaquin Guzman also known as El Chapo.
